AT&T HTC One X update RUU leaks out

We've been hearing whispers that an update has been in the works for the AT&T version of the HTC One X, and this morning an RUU has leaked its way out. There's no real changelog, of course, though folks are noting a new radio and possibly improved Wifi performance (which is one of the features we'd heard was being targeted). The RUU takes the software version to 1.85.502.3.710RD, up from 1.73.XXX.

One thing to be aware of -- and which is strangely not mentioned in the source post -- is that this is a full RUU, which means if you run it, you're wiping the device. So keep that in mind if you're thinking about giving it a go. And do remember that this is all unofficial stuff, and no telling if it's actually the update that will be pushed by HTC and AT&T. Third California Roots Music & Arts Festival features national touring ...

Virginia-based reggae band SOJA headlines the Sunday bill at the third California Roots Music & Arts Festival this weekend at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.

In its third year of existence, The California Roots Music & Arts Festival is establishing itself as a premium destination for American reggae acts and fans.

Taking place Saturday and Sunday at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, this year's event features national touring acts like SOJA, Pepper, The Green, The Expendables, J Boog, Passafire and more.

The festival will also host an afterparty following each day of the festival. Saturday's afterparty features the Berkeley-based hip-hop/indie-pop duo Cataracs.

The band produced the hit song "Like A G6" with Far East Movement and Dev. That afterparty takes place Saturday night at the King City Room inside the Fairgrounds. Tickets are $30 for the all-ages event.

Founder Jeff Monser has worked hard to build the festival into a destination for fans of what he terms "underground surf-roots music."

"I'm grateful to be able to bring quality entertainment to the Peninsula that has both a positive vibe and brings a true sense of community," said Monser, who also owns Monser Designs. "Boosting tourism and local revenue in a jaded economy couldn't feel any better, and the way we've organically grown a solid family-like team over the past years, the festival is only becoming more established and more reputable as the years go."

Virginia-based reggae band SOJA headlines the Sunday bill. The band released its latest

album "Strength To Survive" in January.

During its rise, the record reached the top of the iTunes Reggae chart.

Singer/guitarist and founding member Jacob Hempbill said the festival represented a marked progress for American reggae bands on the touring circuit.

"When we started playing festivals in California years ago, the American reggae bands would be the opening acts," said Hempbill. "Nobody would dream of putting them in the headlining spot.

He referenced the festival's other headlining acts, fellow American reggae bands like The Green and Pepper, as proof of the positive development within the genre.

"To me, it's really cool to see American reggae being put at the top," he said. "We respect the festival for doing that."

Hempbill started the band with bassist and grade school pal Bobby Lee in the late '90s.

At the time, very few American reggae bands had established a national presence. There was also no digital music distribution to help gain fans.

"There were no American reggae bands. There was John Brown's Body, but we never really heard of them," said Hempbill. "And there was Sublime, but we never really heard of them except on the radio. We didn't really listen to them. I couldn't name three Sublime songs. I love the band, but that's not my thing."

The band was influenced by the sound of Jamaican reggae. It's remained true to that allegiance, with plenty of positive results.

SOJA has released three albums and sold more than 200,000 units. The band has headlined large theaters in more then 15 countries around the world.

The band is in the midst of a national tour that will take them across both coasts. They will share stages with the likes of Steel Pulse, Questlove of The Roots, The Dave Matthews Band, 311 and Slightly Stoopid.

"Strength To Survive" follows previous albums that have been written with a thematic thread.

Their debut "Peace In A Time Of War" spoke about U.S. involvement in wars all over the world. "Born In Babylon" focused on the contributions someone from a First World country can make given a world perspective.

"Strength To Survive" is giving the previous album's theme an even broader view.

"It's got us looking at the world as kind of one in the same, and saying that the boundaries that we put in between our countries and the religions and all of humanity are a fiction, things we make up ourselves," Hempbill said. "As long as we compete in that way, we're headed for the destruction of the human race. That's the strength to survive."

Carney: 'No basis' for sentencing doctor who helped find bin Laden

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday sharply criticized Pakistan for its "unjust and unwarranted" treatment of Pakistani doctor Shakil Afridi, sentenced to prison for 33 years on treason charges for his pivotal role in helping to hunt down Osama bin Laden.

"The United States does not believe there is any basis for holding Dr. Afridi.? We regret both the fact that he was convicted and the severity of his sentence," Clinton said as she met with Foreign Minister of New Zealand Murray McCully.

"His help, after all, was instrumental in taking down one of the world's most notorious murderers.? That was clearly in Pakistan's interests as well as ours and the rest of the world," she said.

The doctor, 48, was?reportedly sentenced to 33 years in prison and fined 320,000 Pakistani rupees, equivalent to about $3,477, by a tribal court.

Afridi had been accused of running a fake hepatitis B vaccination program, collecting DNA samples reportedly used by U.S. intelligence officers to track bin Laden to Abbottabad, where Navy SEALs killed him in a raid on his compound last year.

"This action by Dr Afridi to help bring about the end of the reign of terror designed and executed by bin Ladin was not in any way a betrayal of Pakistan.? And we have made that very well known and we will continue to press it with the Government of Pakistan," Clinton said. "We are raising it and we will continue to do so because we think that his treatment is unjust and unwarranted."

The White House echoed Clinton's remarks, saying it saw "no basis" for his detention. "I think it's an important point that any assistance rendered by anyone in the effort to bring Osama bin Laden to justice was assistance not against Pakistan, but against al-Qaida and against Osama bin Laden," spokesman Jay Carney told reporters aboard Air Force One.

In retaliation for the sentence, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted Thursday to cut aid to Pakistan by $33 million?$1 million per year of his sentence?Agence France-Presse reported.The panel voted 30-0 for the reduction, a rare show of bipartisan anger at Pakistan. Relations between Washington and Islamabad frayed badly after the May 2011 Navy SEALs raid inside Pakistan that killed bin Laden. They worsened amid repeated American drone strikes to kill militants in Pakistan. And in November, Pakistan shut ground supply routes to NATO-led forces in Afghanistan after an American attack killed 24 Pakistani troops.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry, a Democrat and champion of U.S.-Pakistan engagement, warned Islamabad that the sentencing could hamper cooperation by stoking American anger that bin Laden was able to hide out so long in the Pakistani garrison city of Abbottabad.

"Americans will have great difficulty knowing that one year after the United States found and killed the most notorious terrorist in modern history hiding on Pakistani soil, the most visible action being taken to find out how he came to be in Pakistan is the conviction in a Pakistani court?of the physician who helped the United States identify Osama bin Laden," Kerry said in a statement.

"The irony is, the only person being punished is the person who helped the United States achieve justice for the murder of thousands of Americans. I believe in the importance of the US-Pakistan strategic relationship, but realities like these make that effort more difficult," Kerry warned.

Snooki Is Having A Boy!

'Everyone said I was going to have a boy, and they were right!' Snooki tells In Touch magazine.

She was hoping for a brood of mini-Snooki's running around under-heel in her home with fiancé Jionni LaValle
, but "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi is overjoyed that her bouncing bundle will wear blue. "Everyone said I was going to have a boy, and they were right!" Snooki told In Touch magazine in the new issue. The baby is in September and the couple are narrowing down name choices, with the two leading contenders at the moment being Lorenzo or Jionni Jr.

Snooki, 24, told the magazine that she's very excited about the birth of her baby boy, but she admitted that she was hoping for a Jersey girl. "I thought it was going to be a girl. I was hoping it would be, because all girls want girls," she said about her initial disappointment. "It's still my baby, no matter what. I'm excited either way!"

Snooki displays her growing bump on the cover the current issue of the supermarket tabloid, sharing that she's switched from her go-to craving for pickles to cold treats. "I love anything cold and juicy, like Italian ices," she said. In addition to her notoriously rabid sex drive cooling off for now, Snooki said she's also ready to leave some other childish things behind.

"I'm not going to party hard anymore, even after the baby is born," Snooki said. "Being a mom changes you."

Since the rumors first popped up earlier this year, Snooki has flashed an engagement ring from her longtime love, who has appeared on "Jersey Shore" in the past. Snooki has been filming her spin-off with "Shore" bestie JWoww
 and an MTV spokesperson said in March that whatever shenanigans the two have up to have been going quite well. "Nicole and Jenni began filming last week and moved into their new digs with animal print furniture in tow ... Things are going great thus far."

Snooki and LaValle began dating a year and a half ago. According to the MTV star, he has plans to pursue a career in education as a teacher. He also works with kids as a wrestling coach.

Len slams 'Dancing' star William's sexy freestyle

The crowd loved Cheryl and William's freestyle on Monday, but judge Len Goodman? Not so much.

The pre-finale performance show usually sees mellow ballroom behavior from the judges on "Dancing With the Stars." After all, at this point in the competition, the dancers are presumably the best of the best and the routines are bound to be fairly good. So the panel tends to focus on the positives and let their scores speak for themselves -- except not this time.

No, on Monday night, head judge Len Goodman went rogue and broke from the friendly banter and high-praise his fellow panelists dished out and instead revealed exactly what was on his mind.

Fans of real criticism on the show would normally cheer an unexpected treat like that, but there was just one problem: Len's outburst wasn't exactly well aimed.

After heaping accolades on finalist William Levy when the star delivered a 30-point cha cha in the judges' pick round, Len attacked the actor over his follow-up freestyle.

William hit the floor with a sexy, mash-up Latin routine that transitioned from a tango beat to a smooth salsa, with dashes of cha cha and samba along the way. It was the perfect pick for the hip-shaking star who started out as a dance newbie, but mastered many Latin routines over the past few weeks.

But Len didn't see it that way.

"For me, it was too predictable," he ranted. "All you do is shake your butt and get the women screaming. I wanted more. I wanted to see something different. I'm fed up with it!?... I didn't want a salsa with lifts!"

And when fellow judge Carrie Ann Inaba dared to claim the routine was groundbreaking, Len interrupted her to shout, "What ground? It was a salsa!"

The freestyle effort won William a score of 29 points -- yes, after all of that guff, Len knocked off?only?one point -- but it didn't win the head judge any love from the ballroom crowd. The audience booed the "Dancing" vet.

Host with most?Tom Bergeron summed it up best.

"I think Len's suffering from bum envy, frankly," he said with a knowing nod to the audience.

But that wasn't the only point in the night when Len broke away from the shared opinions of the panel, and it wasn't the only time the audience booed him.

The second incident happened when Green Bay Packer Donald Driver put on his first dance. In a reworking of his Argentine tango from week five, Donald offered an improved version of the earlier effort.

Carrie Ann applauded the "crispness" of the dance. Bruno Tonioli found it "effective." But Len thought the wide receiver played it too "careful" and knocked off a point from what would have otherwise been a perfect score. The boos were back.

Now, eagle-eyed dance fans might have noticed that Len had a point with that critique. Donald's partner, Peta Murgatroyd, did the bulk of the work in the number while the NFL star hardly had more than a couple of flicks and one strong pivot as his claim to fame. But considering the fact that Katherine Jenkins performed an equally careful paso doble in her first round without so much as a negative word from Len, one has to wonder what the judge's selective problem was.

Luckily for Donald, the problem didn't last long. Once he hit the dance floor for his country-themed freestyle, complete with synchronized line-dance moves and one of the longest and most dangerous lifts the show has seen, Len couldn't think of a single bad thing to say. And for the first time all season, he couldn't think of a reason not to give Donald a well-earned 10 (as Carrie Ann and Bruno did too).

Despite the standout performances from William and Donald, it was Katherine who took the top spot on the leaderboard.

After raking in 30 points for the aforementioned paso (and her first 10 from Len too), her frenetic freestyle scored the same from the panel. Oddly enough, out of all the routines on Monday night, it was the one most worthy of Len's (or Carrie Ann's or Buno's) criticism. While the routine was filled with fast-paced, big-swing content, it was so fast paced that it led to sloppy leg lines and awkward lifts. ?

Despite all the hubbub of the night, by the time it was over, only one point separated the stars in the judges' ranking. That means viewer votes will have a big say in how things play out on Tuesday night's finale, but possibly not the deciding say. There's still one more dance to go -- a routine the dancers have?only?24 hours to prepare for -- and the judges will have the only say about that one.
