The iPhone 4S is still selling like hot cakes, four months after being launched, with Apple expected to sell over 30 million iPhones this quarter, most of them being iPhone 4S units. If you have not purchased your iPhone 4S yet, but you?d like to get the phone then this is your chance to do it, as Target is about to kick off an interesting iPhone promotion for eligible customers.
Starting with Sunday, February 26, Target will accept iPhone trade-ins. iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 users will be able to exchange their existing devices for in-store credit which can then be used towards the purchase of a new, subsidized iPhone 4S. Yes, signing a two-year contract is still required, but since you?re trading-in the old handset, you won?t have to pay the full price for the iPhone 4S of your choice.
Here?s what your current iPhone model is worth, assuming it?s in very good condition (otherwise you will not get full credit for it):
- $200 for any iPhone 4
- $150 for any iPhone 3Gs
- $100 for any iPhone 3G
One of the best-case scenarios would be exchanging an iPhone 4 in good to very-good condition with an iPhone 4S. By trading your iPhone 4, you could walk out of a Target store with a free 16GB iPhone 4S, which is selling in AT&T, Verizon and Sprint stores for $199 with new two-year contracts. 32GB and 64GB iPhone 4S models regularly sell for $299 and $399, respectively, with new contracts, which means that in addition to the store credit you?d get after trading-in your current iPhone 4, you?d still have to pay extra cash for either model.
The promotion will end in a week, so you have time until March 3 to make up your mind. Of course, another alternative would be selling your current iPhone on eBay, Craigslist or anywhere else, where you?d surely get more money for your used iPhone. But if you failed to sell it so far, then Target?s promotional sale could be the way to go here.
